Are you bored with your regular T.V. lineup? Could you use something that challenges your brain rather than just entertains you? Have you ever thought about watching the show Seventh Heaven? You would enjoy it if you are looking for a television program that addresses the issues surrounding being a Christian family.

It is about the Camden family. Dad is a minister, and Mom is a stay at home Mom. They are both involved in the lives of their children: Matt, Mary, Lucy, Simon, Ruthie, and the twins Sam and David. They are all involved in their community.

The Camden family has also opened their home to many people throughout the years. It would not be unusual to see many more people in the Camden house. What this large cast does for the audience is it gives each viewer, no matter his or her age, someone to relate to.

Using the family members and the people that the family encounters everyday at church or in school, the program has addressed numerous thought-provoking issues. Some of these have included the consequences of premarital sex, the consequences of using drugs, the influence of alcoholism on families, young marriage, pregnancy, divorce, domestic violence, hunger in America, poverty, cultural issues, racial issues, adoption, the importance of education, equality of sexes, dealing with death, disabilities, and tolerance for religious differences.

The show also takes current issues like politics and the controversies of war and the military and ties them into the show. This opens up communication for families in the viewing audience.

It has also addresses the lighter issues of how a family gets along, the responsibilities of a child getting a pet, handling sibling rivalry, age appropriate dating, forgiveness, the value of volunteering, and the role of the elderly.

Seventh Heaven is a non-denominational show, but it has a general Christian viewpoint. It is not preachy or condemning. The Camden family lives more by example rather than religiously going to church or to the Bible for the answers to life’s problems.

After watching an hour-long show, one is motivated to be a better person. It shows the complexity of how God is in control of the crossing of everyone’s paths. It invites the audience to get involved in organizations doing research and making positive differences in this world. There is a lot more value to sitting down in front of the television than just being entertained. One walks away with lasting thoughts about the topics that are covered and a genuine care for the characters as an extension of their own family.

Seventh Heaven can be seen in reruns on The Family Channel or new on the WB. Check your local listings for information about when it can be viewed your area. Past seasons can also be found where DVD’s are sold. Make Seventh Heaven a part of your family’s T.V. lineup. You will be sure to get a lot more out of it than you anticipate.
