If you are a fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise then get ready for its newest installment, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. This game features some of your favorite themes of the Mortal Kombat series, but with a new twist!
Shaolin Monks is much different from previous Mortal Kombat games because you can now play cooperatively with another player. This is the first time that you have ever been able to do this in any of the Mortal Kombat games! You can play as either Liu Kang or Kung Lao, together or alone. The game takes place directly after the ending of Mortal Kombat 1. You get to see the game from the viewpoint of the two Shaolin Monks and take them through the famous Mortal Kombat tournament and Oddworld. The entire cast returns for epic battles and fatalities!
In this game you can expect to use your environment to aid you in taking out your foes. Classic mechanisms of doing so are still available, along with some new ones. Toss your foe in a pit of acid, impale him on a spiked wall, or throw him against living trees. Classic attacks are available along with the new Mutality and Brutalities. You may also find weapons to aid you as you progress through the game.
Mortal Combat: Shaolin Monks has various secrets and characters to unlock. This is a much welcomed surprise. Many secrets about Mortal Kombat can be unlocked and revealed to you. One secret is how Subzero got the scar on his face...
The combat system is flawless and the controls are smooth with fluid character movement. The texture of the game and its backgrounds are lovely. However, the character models are a bit rough. The voice acting is not so great, but the musical score is outstanding. It really gets you moving!
Mortla Kombat: Shaolin Monks is available for Playstation 2. It has an ESRB rating of M for Mature. This is because it contains gore, blood, and intense violence. A strategy guide is available for those of you that need a few cheats.
